For home cinema as well as stereo two matters are important:
- You must be able to enjoy undisturbed without disturbing your surrounding - The inner acoustic climate must be good to achieve best quality sound
Measures to limit the noise transfer to neighbours
With a home cinema and stereo is mainly a case of air noise. Additionally to a lower degree there is a case of contact sound. For each type of noise there are different solutions:
Air noise When you have thick ( minimal 2 bricks) walls the air noise (at normal volume) has very little annoyance. With thinner partitions (one brick or thinner) extra measures are needed in order to prevent nuisance noise.
You prevent noise problems by building Merfoflex Pre-made Partitions (for the thin walls). The Merfoflex Pre-made Partition is a ‘floating’ partition. It is placed completely vibration free from wall and ground. With this you get much higher noise insulation values than by the placing of a fixed pre-made partition.

Contact noise (vibration of the speaker boxes) The boxes and the subwoofer vibrate. These vibrations are transferred to the ground (contact noise). These vibrations can be carried far in the building construction and lead to nuisance noise in other locations within the building construction. So, it is important that you die-couple the boxes and the sub-woofer from the floor. You can do this by fixing them onto a heavy foundation, which you then set ‘floating’ with Merfomer or Agglomer.
Inner Acoustic Climate
The inner acoustic climate must be good to achieve best quality sound. For optimal acoustic the sound must be sufficiently absorbed, so there is no echo and the sound is well differentiated. Still, it must not be absorbed to such a degree that dim, dead sound is heard.
When your space has a floor covering and there is an upholstered sofa , then the acoustic is often already good. In spaces with hard partitions and floors extra absorption must be applied. You can chose from absorption materials including:
Merfocell: available as burl, pyramid or wave foam Acusticab: a well-finished plain foam in black, white and grey Soundstone: ceiling plates meant for screens, but also to be glued well with Saba Select
Shortly we will have a few design solutions available, such as absorbing paintings, (prices from 400 euro). If you are curious about our new solutions, the contact us by using the contact form.
