A "floating floor" is a good solution to insulate the floor above the engines room of a boat/yacht . We make a differentiation between a wooden floor which is placed directly on to the floor carriers( bearers) and a wooden floor which lies on a steel/aluminium deck ( and on its turn fixed on the floor carrier)

On the floor carriers ( where the floor lies) you put pieces of Agglomer with glue. Directly on top of this you lay the new wooden floor ( gluing with contact glue). It is important that this wooden floor does not have any contact with the rest of the construction, therefore no screws or clamps. For the sides you can use Agglomer Stripes.
For extra sound insulation you can stick on the under or up side of the floor a layer Isomat TS 14
For extra absorption of the engines noise you can cover the under side of the floor in the engines space with Merfocell GW, where that applies , the thicker the better the absorption.

Attention: When you don’t use Agglomer Stripes, then be extra careful that the hatches do not have any noise cracks. When this occurs, use a window strip. The passage of the cables has also to be made as soundproof as possible.
