When you have nuisance noise from your downstairs neighbours that is mainly due to air noise (talking, television) in combination with a wooden floor.: Here are two causes:
-through low mass (e.g. 20 cm concrete floor) and a high rigidity a wooden floor has an insufficient ability to stop noise; - noise penetrates through gaps between the planks and joins against the partitions (noise cracks).
In order to stop the air noise plates of noise insulation material must be glued on the floor. We advise the application of Isomat 14. This smooth, artificial plates have a high mass of 14 kg/m2. With this the mass is doubled and therefore also the noise insulation of the floor improves without increasing its rgidity.
By connecting the plates well to each other and against the partitions (possible sealing paste) all noise cracks are sealed through which the noise insulation improves. By this there are improvements of 8 to 10 dB(A) are achieved. Under normal conditions there are no more obstacles between the plates.
Concrete floor
When irritation from air noise occurs it concerns neighbours who turn up their stereos loud or make very loud music. The only solution here is for your neighbour to make a sound studio.
Contact noise
In case of annoyance from contact noise (walking, drumming etc) from your downstairs neighbour, then there is not very much you can do. The noise must really be tackled at the source (see other solutions in the section: Residence). So you should talk to your neighbours.
We hope that you can come to an agreement with your neighbours by yourself. In the case that this isn’t working and you want to know your rights and/or obligations then you can contact the Nederlandse Stichting Geluidshinder (NSG).
