A typical example of contact sound is a vibrating chassis. Vibrations of the engines and wheels are radiated through the chassis as audible sound.
If you are irritated by a vibrating chassis you must use damping material. Anti-drumming materials ensure that vibrations cannot be conducted to the chassis and absorb (damping) plate resonance. For good damping you should damp a minimum of 70% of the surface. When you simultaneously want good sound insulation (for example: against external road noise), then you should cover the entire surface.
Depending on the source of the vibrations you can damp the following flat surfaces:
Floor pan and Partitions
For damping the floor pan, a heavy plate Vibraflex Extreme can be used. The partitions can be covered with Vibraflex Normal or Vibraflex Extreme
Boot
The best solution for the bottom of the boot is to use a heavier plate Vibraflex Extreme. For the flap the best solution is to use Vibraflex Normal. This material damps less that Vibraflex Extreme but remains better fixed in a suspended position.
The vertical flat surfaces can be covered with Vibraflex Normal or Vibraflex Extreme.
Roof
For the roof, the best solution is to use Vibraflex Normal, this is lighter than Vibraflex Extreme and so remains better fixed in a suspended position. See to it that the whole surface of the roof is dry and oil free prior to mounting the Vibraflex. For optimal application also ensure that that the Vibraflex is firmly pressed everywhere.
Doors
For damping car doors we advise you to use Vibraflex Normal. In case you prefer to use a paste instead of Vibradamp A90-P is a good alternative (apply a minimum thickness of 1.5 mm); mostly for use in hard to reach places.
Attention:
The more damping material is added, the better the damping. However the high weight density of the damping material is a disadvantage. So you should be sure to make a good trade-off between damping and the addition of mass to the car.
