Anti-drumming of the car door |
||||||||||||
A standard car door resonates with the speakers and vibrations which are caused by driving. To avoid this the plate steel of the door must be damped with Vibraflex. The Acoustic Shop offers two solutions: Vibraflex SpeakerkitThe Vibraflex Speakerkit is a complete solution for the speakers in the doors. The sound quality of the speakers will increase with a minimal effort . Complete Anti-drumming with VibraflexFor optimal anti-drumming these flat surfaces must be damped:Quantity1 m2 is generally more than sufficient to anti-drum the door. Many people choose however to put more layers and /or to anti-rumple the other surfaces. Naturally then is more Vibraflex needed.TypeFor the door we advise Vibraflex Normal. This type has a good result and limited increase in weight. If the increase in weight doesn’t bother you, you can choose Vibraflex ExtremeVibraflex is difficult to apply in hard to reach places. in these places we advise Vibrodamp A90-P; this is a two-component anti-drum paste which is already in use for years in the shipping industry for anti-drumming the hull. You must apply 1.5 mm Vibrodamp A90-P for a good damping. Sound insulationAn additional advantage of Vibraflex is that next to anti-drumming it also ensures sound isolation; it will reduce the sound from outside (including, driving sounds). For good insulation for driving sound usually it is also necessary to ballast the floor pan (click here for explanation) Misunderstanding: many people think that anti-drum decreases when there are small cracks between Vibraflex. However, this is not true; small cracks have no detrimental effect whatsoever on anti-drumming. These are however sensitive places for rust. So, we advise sealing as many cracks as possible.WeightVibraflex ensures better anti-drumming and sound insulation than the materials of the competition. However the high weight density of the product is a disadvantage. The door hinges can bear only a limited weight increase before sagging; Something that you will often see at contests. The addition of Vibraflex is then also only at your own risk.Assembly InstructionsIn order to apply Vibraflex you can follow the steps below: Ensure that the areas that you wish to damp are easy to access by removing the door panel and any other possible panels. Make the parts to be damped clean and oil-free; for example with cleaning spirit or thinner. Make sure that the parts are dry before applying Vibraflex. Cut Vibraflex to the desired size with, for example, a Stanley knife. The material has a self-adhesive glue layer with foil protection. Pull the foil mostly loose so that you can hold the plate without touching the glue. Place Vibraflex in the right location. Preferably use a paint-stripper or otherwise a dryer in order to warm up the material that is already stuck to the door, as to make it more flexible (do not make it too warm; you must be able to push it with a naked hand). Press the material evenly in all places until it completely morphs the under surface (see example photos underneath). Place the next Vibraflex piece in the same way. Pay attention that there are no spaces left between the bitumen and the plate materials. These spaces will be filled with moisture which causes rust.Extra RemarksBefore and after application pay attention to the following: Ensure that the wiring etc can not resonate by securing it. Ensure as little as possible margin in the door mechanism etc.
